About us

Jim and Karen moved to Scio, Oregon in 2021.  They bought just under 50 acres with a dream of a home and property to raise horses and goats.  They quickly moved away from goats when Jim purchased his first miniature Zebu cattle in fall of 2022.   After meeting an incredible group of people through J Fisher Training, Jim and Karen developed a love for Mountain Trail.  Townsend Harmony Ranch, LLC was formed in January 2024.  The inaugural THR Mountain Trail Challenge Series was on July 13, 2024.

Jim Townsend

Jim Townsend is a lifelong horseman.  His mom, Lynda, had Jim trail riding on his own horse by the age of 2.  His great grandfather, Marvin Gupital, was the founder of the NWCHA.  Jim has been a cattle rancher, riding horses with a purpose.  He has competed in the NCHA and was reserve World Champion in his amateur division in 2016.  He has also competed in Mustang Makeovers and Craig Cameron’s Extreme Cowboy Races.  He currently enjoys trail riding and competing in Mountain Trail events. When he is not in the barn, he works as a self-employed general contractor.
